| I am DONE |
[12 Dec 2008|10:57pm] |
I havent posted in this thing for a really long time, but this is significant enough to warrant it.
I am hereby DONE with college. I just finished my very last ever college assignment/exams/etc. (until I go to grad school, but that is a different chapter).
On December 21st I will graduate with a BS degree in Ecology & Environmental Biology
I got a job from March-May 2009 in Las Vegas surveying desert tortoises.
Yessir, it sure does feel good to be done, after 5.5 years, 11 semesters...
I am officially a full-fledged educated adult.
Now I go to sleep for the first time in three days...
Adios

Say hello to ASU's newest paid animal research facility assistant. In other words, now I have a cool job. I get to play with lots of mice, rats, rabbits, snakes, lizards, and turtles, and I get paid $1197 for doing so for the semester. Best of all, I get to wear a lab coat. Evil laugh...

| Blue-spotted Salamander (Ambystoma laterale) and Jefferson Salamander (Ambystoma jeffersonianum) |
[09 Jun 2007|09:21pm] |
|
The most famous result of the tendency of mole salamander species to hybridize where they come in contact is the jeffersonianum-laterale complex of species. These two species were separated by ice age glaciation, but when the ice melted, they came into easy contact with each other and interbred. The Jefferson Salamander (jeffersonianum), and the Blue-spotted Salamander (laterale) have variously been put together as one species, and taken apart based on these hybrid populations. They are currently considered separate due to the genetic make up of isolated populations. The hybridization of Ambystoma laterale and Ambystoma jeffersonianum has led to the development of two completely female populations of mole salamander. Both of these are polyploid, like the all-female species of Whiptail lizards. Ambystoma platineum, the Silvery Salamander, is technically a population of hybrid jeffersonianum-laterale salamanders. However, the Silvery Salamander is completely asexual and does not technically breed. Ambystoma platineum females go through mating rituals with Blue-spotted males in order to begin parthenogenesis, a process known as gynogenesis. They then lay eggs that contain only clones of the mother. Therefore all members of this populations are clonal. Silvery Salamanders may be considered a species, since there is no genetic exchange with any other salamander group, but it is usually classified within Ambystoma laterale. Genetically, they are all one Blue-Spotted-Jefferson hybrid salamander. Hybridization has also given rise to a second all-female population, Tremblay's salamander, Ambystoma tremblayi. These females pretend to breed with Jefferson's males in order to initiate cloning. It is also usually classified within Ambystoma laterale. Both these female populations strongly resemble the Blue-spotted salamander.

Yesterday I witnessed something that deeply disturbed me. I was at Siners house with him and this 10 year old boy that his mom babysits. We were sitting around the fire talking about whatever and the kid was wearing a baseball uniform (apparently he just got done with a game) and playing with a baseball and glove. I thought to myself "this kid might actually be pretty cool since he likes to be outside (to play baseball)" so I went to my truck and got out a dog skull to show him. As soon as I show it to him, from 10 feet away, he starts backing up, telling me not to bring it any colser to him. I am like what the fuck, it is a clean, old dog skull. He says it is "scary because it has teeth". This is nothing but the top half of a dog skull, no jawbones, no muscles, beyond obviously long dead, and this 10 year old is being a big fat pussy for reasons unknown to me. I proceed to swing said skull teeth first at my own arm to show the kid that he has nothing to fear and he continues to be a big fat pussy until I put it back in my truck. I though a 10 year old boy would think a dog skull was the coolest thing theyve ever seen. Apparently the youth of America today really are being turned completely into a generation of big fat pussies. It makes me sad.

I think I'm going to quit using Livejournal as my blog since I barely use it anyway. I'll still read my friends page from time to time, by if you want to read about stuff, I'm going to start posting everything on my website http://duroo.org since I finally got around to writing my own blog script. I dont really like using other peoples scripts because it kinda feels like cheating so anyway, shrews...

| I'm not dead... |
[13 Jan 2007|01:39am] |
I am posting this to let anyone who cares and doesn't already know this that I am not dead. I haven't posted since September, mainly because I am too overwhelmed by the trials of life to take time aside and write on this machine. Things have been surprisingly good lately. Let's hope this trend lasts. I have good expectations of 2007, it will be a good year. School has fun classes (finally) and my parents said as long as I pull straight A's or B's out of my ass this semester that they are going to support me financially and not make me get a job. But I might get a job anyway because I hate relying on others to support myself. We will see... Truck is in the shop getting fixed so right now I have no wheels. This coming summer I am going to be interning at Pilot Mountain State Park doing biological surveys and other such things. This basically means playing with animals all the time. I am developing everyday. I am growing to become the man that will be necessary to survive the possible tribulations and marms of the future. Slowly, ever so slowly, it is all coming together. There is some force guiding me, whether it be in my own head or real somewhere/when. It helps me find my way. Hopefully I will have found that way by December 21st 2012 at 11:11PM. Otherwise, nothing might happen, or pigs will fly.
Toot-a-loo!!
There, I said it. Fucking BYE!!!

ClimateCrisis.netPlease visit this website. Check out the section on how to live more efficiently. Our Earth is dying. We are an infection and we are killing it. There is NO argument. Every scientist on this planet agrees, global warming due to unprecidented release of CO2 into the atmosphere is running rampant. It IS happening. It WILL get worse. Only WE can stop it. A single persons actions against this are useless and will not help. That is how I, and I'm sure everyone else, feels. And it is true. Yet many personal efforts added together WILL make a difference. This is what we must understand. If we ALL try, a difference will be made. That is the problem we now face, trying to get everyone to try together, instead of despairing at their own ineffectiveness. If the trend continues, we will all eventually be destroyed, just as a fever destroys the microbes that cause it. Global warming is the Earths fever, and it will kill us all eventually. Personally, I do not find this sad at all. People suck. The sad part is that all of the innocent and beautiful life that surrounds us will go with it. All that will be left are cockroaches and bacteria, and life will again start from scratch. Maybe this is for the best, maybe the next mass extinction, of which there have already been many, will be different in that it itself will be caused not by a comet, or other natural event, but will be caused by life itself. And perhaps this will allow life to evolve into vastly new and different forms the likes of which the Earth has yet to see. But all of the present beauty will be gone. Forever. By 2050, the Earth is going to be a very different place. Mark my words. Print out what I say here. In 2050, look back and read it. See if i am right.

Book of Dead Souls
The supreme tome, the Book of Dead Souls, Between its cover its pages hold, Every story ever told, For this book is dreadfully old. To the touch it feels cold. Its mere existence provokes terror bold. The extent of its power remains untold. For to this book all souls are sold.
I wrote this today while walking to school this morning.

I recently have been listening to a lot of Bone Thugs in Harmony. I don't really like a lot of rap, but this stuff is really catchy. Also, they apparently like smoking a lot of weed, and they dont care about white people, all they talk about is killing other niggas. The perfect rap group.
